How to Confirm Your NIE Is Officially Registered: Verify the Certificate With Its CSV Code

Last updated: By

Once you hold your NIE certificate — the white non-resident NIE — you can move on to opening a bank account, signing a rental contract, or whatever comes next. Your NIE is official, and you can verify that yourself in a few clicks: the certificate carries a verification code (CSV) that the Policía Nacional’s portal checks against its own database, returning a verified copy of the document.

How to check your NIE on the official portal

Step 1: Copy your verification (CSV) code

You will find the verification code (CSV code) on the left side of your NIE certificate. It looks like this: 01234-56789-01234-56789. Enter the entire code exactly as it appears, including all the dashes — do not skip or change anything.

Step 2: Open the official portal of the Spanish National Police

In your web browser, open the document verification page of the Policía Nacional (“Verificación de documentos con CSV”). This is the official website of the Policía Nacional where you can verify your document.

Step 3: Enter the CSV code and pass the security check

  • Enter your CSV code exactly as it appears on your NIE, including all dashes and capital letters.
  • Complete the security check (CAPTCHA) — a simple sum.
  • Click “Enviar formulario”, and then “Descargar” to download your certificate.

Step 4: Download the NIE certificate

At this stage the Policía Nacional’s system automatically checks your code in its database. If everything was entered correctly, you can download a verified PDF certificate of your NIE — directly from the official source. It is the same document you received from us; now you have seen where it is officially registered and confirmed it for yourself.
